I saw 'em!

I finally got my first glimpse of the Himalayas today. Yesterday I went to Nagarkot (a small, high village on the Kathmandu valley rim) to stay overnight and see the sunrise over the Himalayas. Well, of course it was cloudy this morning, and those of you who know me know it takes a lot for me to get up before dawn. Well, I ended up climbing this tower that they have, to get to which I had to cross through a Nepali military training facility (which they didn't seem to mind). Once I got up there, I was able to see above some of the clouds and see actual mountains. I got some decent (I think) pictures of the Langtang range. Tonight I'm going to organize and annotate my photos, and tomorrow, if I find an internet place that has a USB port, I'll post some of my Nepal pictures.

Also, I've found some people to trek with, and if all goes well, we'll be leaving for the Annapurna circuit on Saturday. I'm sure I'll be gone for at least three weeks on that one. I may try some rafting before I head to the Khumbu region (that's where Everest is). They apparently have some of the best rivers for rafting and kayaking, everything from long trips with not much more than class two rapids to some sections of rivers with class fives. I let you all know if I'm stupid enough to try a class five or not. At this point it seems about 50/50.
